Our Cross Country team is currently ranked #8 in CIF and they had a really good week this week. Here is an update from Coach Henning:

Western Christian XC traveled to La Crescenta on Saturday, October 3rd, and brought back a team title on the boys side. I was very proud of our performance. We were trying to run as easy as possible, since we were going to have a league meet 3 days later, but we also wanted to win the meet.

Eric Garcia-3rd place, 17:13. Eric’s job was to go out and shadow the leader, and try to outkick him in the end. I’m confident he could have, but wasn’t feeling well, so he decided to keep it under control late in the race. That was smart.

Caleb Meister-11th place, 17:59. Caleb definitely kept it under control, I was very proud of his effort. He ran a tempo effort (85-90%), and finished comfortable. Caleb is Mr. Consistent this year.

Jon Esparza-12th place, 18:15. Jon normally runs with Caleb, but twisted his ankle and this slowed him today. He stopped during the race to check on it. Should be fine for the rest of the season.

Thomas Mutch-18th place, 18:24. PR for Thomas, by 20 seconds. He has racing flats, and you can see the difference it makes. I’m proud of how he is progressing.

Christian Mora-22nd place, 18:40. I believe Christian kept his effort under control, and just finished strong but not all out. This is what we want, look for Christian to step up huge for us at the end of the season.

Tim Boore-28th place, 18:56. Solid race for Tim, he ran with the pack for a while and was in the mix. He is coming around nicely, and should help to solidify our top 7.

Ben Rinard-34th place, 19:19. Ben has been sick all week, so I probably shouldn’t have let him race, so my mistake. You could tell he wasn’t back to full strength, so obviously wasn’t going to run very well. We will work to get him healthy for league, he is one of our key scorers.

Brad Gustafson-34th place, 21:43 in sophomore race. Good race for Brad, he keeps improving with every race. I’m hoping we can get him under 20 minutes by the end of the year.

Cody Brobston-5th place, 22:36 in freshman race. Unfortunately, I missed this race, but hear that he ran well. He has been a little sick, so I’m hoping that we can get him healthy so that we can get him under 20 minutes like Brad.

Nicole Dinisi-19th, 21:58. Solid race for Nicole. She can now say that she is a consistent 21 minute runner. She will be unbelievably fit by the end of the year, if we can keep her healthy.

On Tuesday we won the first League meet to begin our request for a league title and work for a trip to the CIF Section and then State Finals.
