CJ Beatty League MVP

Senior Captain CJ Beatty has continued the tradition of baseball excellence as he became the 7th Lancer in the last five years to be selected to the ALL CIF Team. According the June 21 press release by the CIF Southern Section office, he was honored on the 2010 Division 5 All-CIF First Team. He was also unanimously selected by the league’s coaches as the 3rd consecutive Lancer, and 4th in five years, to be chosen as the Christian League Most Valuable Player to go along with his 2009 League Pitcher of the Year honor.

This marks the second time Beatty was selected to the 1st team in his three year Varsity career as a Lancer. He was first given the honor in his 2008 sophomore campaign putting up astonishing numbers for a first time Varsity player. In his 2009 junior season the numbers were more impressive, while he humbly celebrated two of teammates receiving ALL-CIF bids.

Beatty’s return to the ALL-CIF team is only the fourth time a Western Christian baseball player has repeated the honor and the first time in the school’s 90 year history someone has repeated the first team. In both the 1991 and 1992 seasons infielder Mark Rogers was selected to the ALL-CIF 2nd Team. In 1964 Stephen Tange and Tom Orr were selected to the 2nd Team and then the 1st team in 1965.

While leading his team to three consecutive league titles en route to an impressive 21-5 season and a #6 ranking, Beatty’s individual statistics are what garnished him the ALL-CIF honor. Offensively he batted .478 on the year with 43 hits, 10 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs, 34 RBI’s, 35 runs scored and 9 stolen bases. On the mound he posted a 2.10 ERA in 70 innings pitches, giving up 38 hits, and striking out 98 batters while boasting a 9-3 record.
