On Thursday, Oct 6th, the Western Christian Lady Lancers traveled south down the 15 freeway to play Calvary Murrieta in a key Ambassador league match.  Calvary entered the match ranked #8 in the latest CIF Division 3-A poll.  The match was expected to be close and set 1 provided evidence of that as both teams battled hard.  Neither team could pull away from the other as both teams found themselves tied at 11-11, 16-16 and 18-18.  Calvary Murrieta was able to take a 2 point lead at 21-19 and held on to win set 1 by a score of 25-23.  Itali Andrade had 4 kills in set 1.  Casi MacQuoid added 3 kills and Lyndsey Carruthers, Hannah Rhinehart and Brook Bernard all had 2 kills.   Brook and Itali also added 2 aces for the Lady Lancers.

In set 2, Calvary Murrieta jumped out on top of Western Christian 17-10 before the Lady Lancers made a furious comeback.  With Itali Andrade holding serve,  the Lady Lancers rallied to a 18-18 tie. Calvary Murrieta was able to pull out a set 2 win by a score of 25-23.  Lyndsey Carruthers led the way for the Lady Lancers in set 2 with 5 kills. Brook Bernard added 3 kills.

After being tied at 9-9 in set 3, the Lady Lancers found themselves down 16-11 before embarking on another furious comeback to even set 3 at 22-22.  Both teams traded points to keep the set  tied at 23-23 and 24-24 before Calvary was able to prevail by a score of 26-24 to win the match.

Western Christian’s drops to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in league. Four of the Lady Lancers six  losses have come against top ten teams in Division 2-A and Division 3-A.  They start the second half of Ambassador league play on Tuesday, 10/11, when the host cross town rival Ontario Christian.  JV 5pm, Varsity at 6.
