Administration in attendance: Robert Yovino and Brandon Doolittle
Coaches in attendance: Robin and Jackie Bates, Jeremy Matlock
Booster Members in attendance: Holly Wood, Alex Cordero, Gilbert Cortez, Cris Kennedy, Vickie Meister
Opening Prayer:
Mr. Brian Mizell opened the meeting with prayer at approximately 7 pm.
Reading of Minutes:
The March minutes were silently reviewed, then approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
The Treasurer’s report was reviewed by Jeanne Pandzic. The ending balance on March 31st was 13,147.30.
Coaches/Liaison Reports for Spring:
Softball (Alex Cordero):
Softball will play OC this Tuesday. Upcoming games are against Loma Linda and Arrowhead Christian.
The softball team got new pants! (Paid for by WCHS, not Boosters.)
Baseball (Coach Bates):
The record in baseball to date is 3:3 in league. They will be playing the same schedule as softball this week.
Golf (Coach Matlock):
The current record is 1:8. They have been improving.
Track and Field (Gilbert Cortez):
The team has not received their entire spirit pack, with the season almost over. There was a general discussion of the spirit pack problems for various teams this year.
Old Business:
Spring Meet the Teams (SMTT), rescheduled to Saturday, May 21st (Mary Mizell):
SMTT was rescheduled due to rain. Therefore, there is more time to sell deeds and increase team and Booster profits! Yes! Mary has more deeds to sell if needed. Food orders are also ongoing. It was suggested that each team member could purchase food, since they will be hungry anyway. The food will be from Taco Dude.
Baseball is doing a bake sale.
Baseball is doing a coffee bar.
A discussion was held on whether we could combine SMTT with the Spring banquet, since everyone is there already, and the families have to be out so late on a weeknight to attend the awards banquet. Mr. Yovino prefers to keep the formal nature of the banquet as it is now, and not combine the two events.
The sundae auction will still be held at SMTT.
The auction for the following items will now be at THE AUCTION at the Claremont campus on Saturday May 7th, at 5 pm.
• 1st row at 2011 graduation ceremony.
• Two (2) senior parking spots for 2011-2012. Boosters will purchase two (2) “reserved” signs. Mr. Yovino was in agreement with installing the signs.
• Two (2) preferred parking spots for football home games.
• One (1) boys and one (1) girls spirit basket.
The Auction, Saturday, May 7th, 5 pm, Claremont Campus (Brandon Doolittle):
Mr. Doolittle spoke about the Auction becoming the main fundraiser of both campuses, and the probability that the Legacy dinner would be discontinued.
He requested that any items that we may have for the auction be dropped off to Kathy Scheenstra, Claremont campus.
Mr. Cordero had a question about the auction baskets. (The teams can auction a themed basket for the silent auction portion.) He wanted to know where the profits would go. It was clarified that it would go to the teams’ accounts.
Fundraising Ideas Discussed (These ideas can be added to/integrated with ideas listed on the February and March minutes.):
Mrs. Pandzic will make some calls regarding the cell phone tower possibility.
Scrip. WCS needs a parent volunteer to take over the program.
A game day (three-legged races, etc.), suggested by Mrs. Wood.
Banners.
Program ads.
Fireworks (Coach Levins).
Christmas trees.
Walkathon.
Pancake Breakfast.
Service days(?)—Perhaps the game day for a group in need?
Lemon Festival, selling food, suggested by Mrs. Wood.
Booster Help Needed:
Boosters needs an Apparel Chair and a Snack Bar Chair.
Snack Bar:
Holly Wood will run the snack bar at the last 4 baseball home games.
Coke Machines:
Mr. Cortez brought up the vending machine issue. Rules of selling sugary drinks, California state laws, etc. were discussed. Mr. Yovino stated that WCHS must follow state law regarding what is sold in the machines. WCHS makes a profit on the machines as is.
Closing Prayer:
The meeting was closed in prayer by Mr. Yovino at 8:24 pm.
Minutes prepared by Beth Pujol, May 4, 2011.
