WESTERN CHRISTIAN BOOSTER
MINUTES NOVEMBER 16, 2009

Mr. Mizell opened in prayer and called for the approval of the October minutes.  Mrs. Cramer wanted the comments to include in the notes that state: “although the event was profitable the Fall Meet the Teams and the Harvest Festival should be two separate events.”  Wayne Rorex moved that the minutes be approved and Christine Urrutia second the motion.
TREASURER REPORT
Report transfers have been made.  50/50 and snack bar allocations have been made and and are reflected in today’s report.
FOOTBALL
The senior game was great.  It was disheartening regarding the bussing issue and the lights got turned off.   Apparently there was a clock issue and they should have allowed them to finish the play.  It is asked that we try through boosters to grow the pre-game food.  That is something to look into through the grub committee.  The Grubb committee needs extra help setting up!  It will be easier when the games are played at home.
Mr. Mizell commended the football team and their season. True growth is not always shown by your record – the kids grew in character through perseverance.  He was proud of the boys, parent support and the coaching staff.  He would like to encourage all members to give any support to the coaches and athletes.
VOLLEYBALL
The team went to CIF!!  Mrs. Cramer stated how proud the parents are of the girls.  The team did very well.  They came in 2nd in League.  They beat OC twice, Aquinas twice, and the last game at OC they won and it was a real nail biter!  They won the first game went to the second round a played 5 games.  They were the only team to play 5 games.  They are voting on all league tonight.  For the season league play they came in 7-3 overall and there are several girls in the top 5 for all league.  Mrs. Cramer would like to add to her Volleyball report by thanking all the liaisons for coming out and supporting the girls at OC, it really made a difference!
CHEER
NO ONE REPORTING
Mr. Mizell states that there will be a cheer competition this Saturday.
CROSS COUNTRY
Vicki Meister reports that CIF prelims are this Saturday.  They are 3rd in the State.  There is one girl still running, Nicole Dinisi.  If they do well on Saturday then they will be going to Fresno, which will be the state championship.
BASKETBALL
Anjie Hyde reports that the team has 12 players.  Two seniors are from UCA, the team is made up of 6 seniors and 6 juniors.  JV still having tryouts.  Their first game is 11/24 at 4:30 & 6:00.  They will be participating in the Webb tournament the first week of December.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Sue Cobb reported that an announcement for the Sports Ad dedications has been made and all have been notified.
SOCCER
Roxanne reports that the girl’s soccer team has 16 players and has finally gotten a goalie.  They have a scrimmage on 11/29 at 3:15.  Home games will be played at Cabrillo Park in Upland.
SPORTS PROGRAM

Boy’s soccer still has no liaison
Still need a couple of replacement checks from the fall teams for the ads
For the winter program, please turn in Ads.  Anjie wanted to know who is doing the pictures so she can get the pictures done, because there is a scheduling conflict.  It is stated that Pro pics is believed to be the ones doing it for the yearbook.  Anje will do it if the conflict cannot be fixed, she will take off of work.
YARD SALE
Time for set up is Friday at 3:00 until we finish.  Maybe we can start a bit earlier since it is a half day.  Football is willing to help with set up.  Wayne asked about what will happen if it rains? And we all decided it won’t J.  It has been requested that anyone who can bring an EZ-UP, we are in need of 20.  There will be very minimal drinks and doughnuts provided.  We are putting some things away that will not sell well at the yard sale and putting them on eBay or Craig’s list.  It will be held in the middle parking lot or “staff lot.”  It has been advertised in the Pennysaver and also in the Spanish paper.  Renee asked if a decision has been made on the left overs.  It depends what is left, we have some contacts with thrift stores for donations.
BUNCO
It was cancelled; it was put out to winter teams.  Soccer states they would like to participate as well as Football and volleyball will let their families know as see if they want to support it.  It is suggested that the price be lowered to $20.00, people feel $20.00 is easier to give.  We would like to offer it to the sports that are in their off season, with the possibility of making Bunco an all sport event.  We are flexible, if other teams want to do it, we will do it.  If we can have Bunco in the gym, we will do it!  A request for volunteers to run it is put out, Meister, Cortez, and Urrutia, have responded and will meet with Mary at the conclusion of the meeting to discuss it further.
LANCER GRUB
Vivian will send out an email for sign ups.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS
Mrs. Cramer reports that we had $86.00 in internet sales.  We thought we’d sell a couple hundred and we were surprised and we sold 368 books.  Out of the $9,400.00 40% goes to the teams.  Football sold the most 112 books, Cheer in 2nd @ 89 books and everyone else averaged 20-30.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU to anyone who heads a committee or volunteers.
50/50
There are 7 opportunities available.  If the winter sports don’t sign up the other teams can sign up.  When you do 50/50 you are also responsible for the ticket table.
BASKETBALL SEASON PASS
The Basketball season pass has been approved. It is the intention to rope off a section of stands if you buy the pass you gets the best seats for the 7 home games. Since it is an exclusive area the price will be $50.00.  This pass applies to Boys/girls VARSITY ONLY.  Please let us know if anyone is interested.
FALL BANQUET
Coach Gabbard has asked for help.  If you are not in a fall sport please consider helping out with décor and balloons ** There was a Booster meeting scheduled for that night so it will be cancelled and there will be no Booster meeting in December.
FOOTBALL FUNDRAISER REQUEST
Christine has asked to do a tamale fundraiser.  All sports would be included and work together.  It could be done for a fundraiser or a community builder.  After much discussion it is thought that maybe due to liability it is better as a community builder rather than a fundraiser so there is not a liability issue.
FUNDRAISING PROCESS
It is thought that we’d go back to 2 large fundraisers.  If you have an idea, please email the board and the idea with how it is done and how it can benefit all the teams.  We are trying to go back to 2 fundraisers and we will be discussing this in March.  It is vital that you are at that meeting, for the input and voting.  Last year we had 14 members there to vote.  We are going through the process of what works and what doesn’t.  Mr. Cortez stated it might be better to have 2 not cast in stone, but maybe a little more fluid in the process.  Consistency is good, we can always revamp ideas.  Teams felt like they didn’t get enough money, so we added more and then everyone got burned out.  We are trying to eliminate that for next year.
REQUEST FOR FUNDS
There were two requests for funds one from Cross Country and one from boy’s basketball.
Mr. Cortez brought up the idea of maybe raffling off a varsity letterman’s jacket, one boy & one girl.
It is decided to hold off on the idea until specifics can be looked at.  It will be presented to the coaches, AD, and Principal and then we will let everyone know their decision.
ALUMNI
It is felt like the lack of communication with the alumni is a real concern.  Various parents wanted to know what the alumni organization is doing to let them know about financial needs, games, events etc.  It is felt that the alumni are missing leadership and it needs to get fixed.  If anyone knows of alumni that wish to become involved please have them contact Mr. Yovino.
Renee has stated that our Booster website is not up to date.  Can we update the front page with big events so alumni can see it rather than navigating through the entire website?  Since our sports program is growing, there is a need for an up to date info page.  Brandon Doolittle works very hard and could use help from volunteers so if anyone has the interest or skill please offer it to him.
VOLUNTEER HOURS
It is asked if some could volunteer hours vs. giving money as a purpose of getting more people involved with the sports program and school in general.  We need to be careful how we proceed with that.  It will be an administrative decision.
TOURNAMENTS
It is requested that if a team wants to host a tournament can they as a team fundraiser?  It needs to be clarified who is hosting, the team or the Athletic director?  In the past, teams have lost money doing this so it needs to be looked at again for its profitability.
