COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

6th Grade Study Skills

6th Grade Study Skills

This class will prepare the 6th grade student for the transition to middle school. The student will learn how to effectively use the agenda, learn time management and study tips, increase organizational skills, note taking, test taking, and more.  The students will be given the opportunity to complete homework during a supervised study time at the end of the period.

Art

Art

This course will explore creativity in art with hands-on projects in several mediums such as oils, water colors, sketching, and sculpturing.  The class will study the basic elements such as line, shape, color, value, texture, form and space. The students will also examine the works of famous artists and try their hand at imitating the works of the masters.

Photography

Photography

Students will learn how to take quality pictures, download pictures from their cameras to the computer, use software to manipulate pictures, and take action photos. Students will enter their pictures for an opportunity to be in the yearbook. Students must bring their own camera and are responsible for its care and maintenance.

Habits of Highly Effective Teens

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, by Stephen R. Covey, gives young people a set of proven tools to deal successfully with real life. The class is a means to help improve student performance; reduce conflicts, disciplinary problems, and truancy; and enhance cooperation and teamwork among parents, teens, and teachers.

Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone

Student have a choice from 31 different languages to learn. This is a computer learning environment with the students progressing at their pace. Students in Rosetta Stone learn to read and speak the language of their choice. There is a proctor in the class with the students, but the students are encouraged to practice their language at home or with an adult that speaks the language.

Math Lab

Math Lab

This enrichment course is offered to allow students that chance to do math homework and receive guidance from the math teacher on problems that they need help with. Students are encouraged to ask questions to gain better understanding of the assignment.

Sports

Sports

Several sports are offered over the course of the year. Athletes are chosen via a try out method. Athletes that make the team begin practice during enrichment time and continue after school. We teach our athletes how to play the sport and help the athletes grow physically, mentally and spiritually. Athletes must maintain a 2.0 GPA and have no F’s to participate.
