Artistically Known

The ARTS at Western give students an exciting range of opportunities to explore and express their creative, artistic side. Whether it’s in theatre*, choir, music, band, painting, drawing, or sculpting – teachers encourage each student to discover, and use, their God-given talents for His glory.

God is a creative artist, and because you’re made in His image, so are you!

Kindergarten has music class for 30 minutes, once a week.
1st-5th grade has music class for 45 minutes, once a week.

The Pre-K through 2nd grade music curriculum focuses on learning musical “road signs”, including reading the treble clef and performing basic rhythmic patterns, understanding instrument families and recognizing the unique timbre of sounds through great listening examples, and of course, building vocal repertoire through praise songs, new age-appropriate music, multi-cultural selections and folk songs.

The 3rd grade through 5th grades students put their musical knowledge into practice by playing the recorder; a woodwind instrument reaching as far back as the Renaissance Period. As students continue to hone their musical skills, they will have the opportunity to increase their specific knowledge of classic masterworks and their composers. While learning more advanced musical vocabulary, which includes dotted and tied rhythms, and major and minor scales and chords, they will also try their own hand at basic composition.
  • Worship Team

Along with regular classroom praise, WCS holds chapel every Thursday, where the children praise and worship our Lord together through singing and movement and an inspirational message.  Here is where the K-5 and/or 6-8 Worship teams will be performing.
